In a relief for Indian and foreign students who study in the Gulf and adjoining Asian countries, the entrance exam to IITs will be held in 8 countries from the year 2017 onwards, said a statement. The countries include Singapore, UAE, Ethiopia and 5 SAARC nations, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. While the centres in these countries will be administered by the CBSE as part of the ongoing JEE-Mains and JEE-Advanced exams, the seats to be allocated for foreigners under this quota will not affect the already existing quota for Indian students, it clarified. The entrance exam for IITs will be administered in these centres with the help of Indian embassies or high-commissions. Currently, there are 18 IITs/NITs in the country and the seats number more than 10,000. The fee for foreign students will not be subsidised, said the statement. The students selected for IITs/NITs will be given research visa for the full study period instead of annual visas given to foreign students, said the statement.
